Karimikui Espresso

Karimikui Espresso

Cranberry and ripe grapefruit, with a delicate floral sweetness behind them — a Kenyan espresso that tastes more like juice than roast.

Karimikui is a washing station in Kirinyaga County, on the slopes of Mount Kenya. It belongs to the Rungeto Farmers Co-operative Society, which brings together several hundred smallholders — each farming around one hectare of red volcanic soil, where vegetables for the family grow alongside the coffee. The cherries are hand-sorted, dry-fermented, washed in channels and dried on raised beds.

Washed, and roasted light to medium for espresso: the processing gives the coffee a clean, straightforward structure, and in the portafilter it becomes a dense, juicy shot with a citrus finish. If you want the contrast: Cianda Estate is our natural processed Kenyan — same origin, an entirely different cup.
